You are making an assumption based on the limited ways in which most animals have of expressing their thoughts and feelings trans-species. I have spent a great amount of time recently examining the intricate machinery of tiny mouse brains. Their brains are amazingly similar to our own and I personally suspect there is alot of thought and feeling going on in our animal friends little brains we will never be let in on. I dont think any species that doesnt continiously ask ‘why’ and then adjust its behavior to its best logical reasoning wouldn’t stand a chance of surviving. Do some research into communication with african gray parrots, dolphins and gorillas and you will find reason to think there is plenty of wondering in the animal world. Just my crazy two cents. love. bobby.
(none of this applies to turkeys, they are stupid as fuck, look up agape in a rainstorm and drown, brains like a wet pebble.)
possibly tied to our capacity for intricate communication, which facilitates abstract thought and collective learning. Whereas other species develop one trick to take energy from the biosphere and ride that trick for the duration of its existance, we are constantly looking for new ways to harness more and more energy. (hat tip to Prof. David Christian and Big History.)
Yes. It’s the abstraction thing. An oft-unfortunate byproduct of advanced communication. Like the way possums (sp) were unleashed in NYC to assist with rat eradication but have since become a nuisance. Thanks for writing.
Sailor is swell, thanks. Truth is, he deserves to be herding sheep or undertaking some other work. Corgis are too bright and engaged to be lap dogs. I feel bad about the lack of sheep.
