Backstage before the show, Jim Lauderdale from Nashville played one of the songs he wrote, upon my request: ‘You Don’t Seem to Miss Me,’ a ripping-hearted country tune that I first heard on a Patty Loveless album in the 90s, as a duet with George Jones. I adore their version, but when Jim sings his own song, the phrasing is dark and tangled and utterly felt.
