As we neared Byron Bay after a ten hour drive, we found a dramatic dusk fire along Pacific Hwy 1. Burning off sugar cane in the fields — the fires are lit to remove the dry parts of the plant and clear away snakes before harvest.

Woke up at 8am and took a solitary morning swim in Cronulla (just south of Sydney), where we performed last night. I love the fact that in Australia, people so often swim alone. I always catch myself making involuntary utterances of delight when I swim in the ocean.
