Recording session for the new song ‘Loud and Clear’ at Headgear in Brooklyn. I’m drinking CRUNK that Jim brought from Atlanta (by way of L.A.). It’s a new brand of energy drink whose stakeholders include the rapper Lil’ Jon, the King of Crunk hip-hop. (Sent from mobile phone.)

Recording at Headgear in Brooklyn. This is my dear friend Amy Allison singing gorgeous harmonies on both ‘Loud and Clear’ and the cover of country ballad of ‘Painless’ that we’re doing. I know the song ‘Painless’ from Lee Ann Womack’s fabulous recording of it, and started playing it on tour.

Producer Jim Barber outside the entrance to Headgear Studios where we’re recording and mixing the new song ‘Loud and Clear.’ This industrial-hearted neighborhood, Williamsburg, was the place I stayed for a month in 1999 while I sought an apartment (neighboring Greenpoint, actually). I ended up in the far more austere Park Slope. Meanwhile crazy changes in this hood since ’99: Following its complete colonization by hipsters, big high-rise condo buildings started sprouting up along the river, like the one in this picture.
