A tiny bust of Chopin oversees my labours in my studio. My mom gave it to me. We’d wanted (and still hope to find) a big plaster bust, but all we could rustle up was a tiny faux bronze one. If anyone has a good one, please write. Anyhow, I studied hard today and finally have the MicroKorg keyboard working as a MIDI controller for Reason 4.0 with ProTools 7.4 betwixt them. There’s poetry in here somewhere.

Delightful lukewarm raindrops dripped from sunny skies onto the East Village. This is the kind of rain that I try to get caught in. I stopped in a dry used bookstore and picked up a German/English version of an early Rilke work, then crossed through Tompkins Square Park to get to Banjo Jim’s to hear Amy (Allison) sing.

I took this photo while onstage at Highline Ballroom. It’s Danny Barnes and his banjo standing next to me just before he guest-played with us during our final song, ‘It’s Not Over.’

Had a rehearsal today for tomorrow’s show. Rich is going to play an electric guitar instead of an acoustic. Alan is going to do some serious Bridge-N-Tunnel-80s hair metal drumming during the Def Leppard cover.

Krishna! Blast a John Philip Sousa march song! My studio is at last operational again after a rather hair-pulling, wallet-draining upgrade. I felt like Thomas bloody Edison when I heard my first test recording playing back.

Last night I dreamed a black and white dream of recording software spinning like a top on a purring, agreeable laptop. I hope it was a premonition. I took this photo from the Brooklyn Bridge whilst driving back into town. I’m craving these next couple weeks in Brooklyn to settle into some serious studio work, and I’m curious to performing on Friday, this time with actual people onstage with me.

Sailor!

There’s a real special guy standing behind me as I listen to Phoebe Snow singing.
