This is Cheryl. We spent the afternoon sailing in her loveable-like-a-pet sailboat, named ‘Sleeper.’ Cheryl was in the audience at the Lobero Theatre last night when I asked whether anyone might take me on a boat the following day; 15 hours later we were pulling out of Santa Barbara Harbor. Cheryl handed me the helm - my first time sailing on the ocean. I was giddy at how responsive the huge boat was to the slightest nudge of the helm and rudder - an inch-wide movement would send the massive hull into a tilt. We had some delightful life-affirming conversation while our two sailing companions, Doug and Christy, did most of the sailing labour. I’ve learned that on tour, strangers can become friends in an instant.
